Overview

The leadership program is designed to develop the essential qualities and skills needed to excel as a student leader. Working collaboratively in groups, students will participate in team-building activities to develop students’ leadership skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, decision making, and teamwork.

Students will gain an understanding of the relationship between human activities, the environment, and the cultural and natural heritage of Kamay Botany Bay National Park. They will also assess bush trails and use a GPS devise to collect information.

(optional activity)

Student will plan and design solutions to ensure equal access to information for all audiences, including considerations for people with disabilities when accessing sites, monuments, and sculptures.

 

Outcomes

  • GE3-2 Explains interactions and connections between people, places and environments
  • GE3-3 Compares and contrasts influences on the management of places and environments
  • GE3-4 Acquires, processes and communicates geographical information using geographical tools for inquiry
  • ST3-2DP-T Plans and uses materials, tools and equipment to develop solutions for a need or opportunity

  •  How do people and environments influence one another?
  • How do people influence places and the management of spaces within them?

Focus question:

  • Why are the characteristics of materials important when designing and producing?

Students will:

  • walk along a bush track and in groups, complete a number of observations and investigations 
  • Students will explore Kamay Botany Bay National Park using GPS devices to collect information for solving a puzzle
  • participate in a variety of team-building activities to develop the essential qualities and skills needed to excel as a student leader
  •  (optional) explore the site, monuments, sculptures, shoreline and rock platforms to plan and design equal access to information for all audiences, with consideration for people with disabilities.
